Muffin was wondering why the cards always get posted first and her photos come at the end...so today, she gets her picture up first ; ) !
Okay, now that you've seen Muffin in her tutu, we can move on to a couple stamping projects. Both feature Not Quite Navy cardstock & Designer series paper (from the hostess pack). It's a color I tend to reach for more often in the fall. I've been working on some fun swap cards with the Crazy for Cupcakes set, using pinks, browns, pumpkin...but thought it would be fun to try and make a "man" cupcake birthday card...so this is it.

And next, a little Pillow Box, made with the Big shot. I really like that die...it's perfect for a quick, easy little treat. This time Not Quite Navy is combined with Bravo Burgundy, another favorite fall color. Also used my new Wide Scallop Punch & Define Your Life set.

Flight of the Butterfly

My friend Tonya was nice enough to let me borrow her Flight of the Butterfly set this week (thanks Tonya)! These are 2 very simple little cards I made yesterday. The first card is 4 1/4" square. I like the clean, simplicity of it. It's funny, but I thought I would like the larger butterflies and swirly sentiments, but so far, I'm just loving that little butterfly and the simple thank you sentiment.

Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss & Bella Rose DP just seemed like the perfect companions for this stamp set. Do you ever look at a particular stamp set and instantly think of a color combo? I do. For this set, I could only see the butterfly in Riding Hood Red. Which reminds me...what did we ever do without those new in-colors? I love them...every single one of them, but Riding Hood Red & Pink Pirouette are my 2 favorites (this week anyway!).

Seems like I can always use a thank you note. Since these were so quick and simple, I may make a few more... just to keep on hand. thanks Tonya for letting me play with the set, always fun to try something new :) !!!

Color & Sketch Challenges

I colored these images while watching a movie with my family last night. For me, coloring is a great way to relax... it's just too hard to sit still and watch a movie without having something in my hands. My family, a little popcorn, my Scor-Pal/Scor-mat in my lap and a few Copics nearby...now that's one great way to spend an evening :) !!! I checked this week's color challenge before getting started & pulled out a few Copics that fit the challenge, to use Riding Hood Red, Artichoke & Basic Gray (CC184). I used R37 for Riding Hood Red, G85 & G99 for Artichoke & N3, N6 & C1 for the Gray. The branches are E13 & E15. I used R32 for their cheeks & other highlights. My grays aren't an exact match for Basic Gray, but it's what I have, so I made it work :) . Oh, and there's a touch of B000 around the eyes. I used one of my favorite newly released stamps, Christmas Birds, by Pink Poison/Splendid Little Stamps! I absolutely love those little birds, they are just precious!

This next one technically also qualifies for the color challenge (she does have artichoke in her dress), but it's really for the Sketch challenge (CC194). I used my new Princess Anya stamp for this one...love those Anyas & I heard we can expect to see more Anyas in the near future...woo-hoo!! Great layout, it was fun to try. More Riding Hood Red & Basic Gray with a little Prism Aluminum cardstock, embossed with the Cuttlebug Textiles embossing folder. I Used the same colors of Copics with the addition of E00 & G40 for her skin & eyeshadow. Oh, I almost forgot...I used C1 for shadowing around the images. It's almost always what I use because it's subtle, but does add some depth (almost sounds like I know what I'm doing...it's a nice illusion, lol!!)

Introducing Anya

Introducing the brand new ANYA stamps... from Pink Poison/Splendid Little Stamps : ) ! These are sold as singles stamps & each measures 3 x 3....great size!! These were SO stinkin' fun to color!!! The first one is Angel Anya! I'll add sentiments to the inside of the Angel & Nurse cards when I'm ready to give 'em away. This first one just might be a card for my grandbaby girl who is due to arrive in December :)

This next one is Princess Anya ~ she's got a sparkling silver crown and wand, and some sweet sparkle on her dress and eyelids too : ) ... these girly girl images are just the best! You can double click on the photo to get a closer look at that bling! And Nurse Anya ~ what a perfect image to make a card or scrapbook page for a special nurse! Nurse's day is in May each year (next one is 5-9-09), but you don't have to wait for nurse's day to make a card. I worked in the medical field for 20 years, so I had the pleasure of working side by side with some awesome nurses and I know how thrilled they were when someone wrote them a special note! My grandmother was a nurse and I remember she had a little hat just like this one. What a great image...love it!! That's all for now. More Splendid Friends

I made a few more cards today with the newly released FRIENDS FOREVER set from Pink Poison/Splendid Little Company : ) ! This is the stamp set that Marie will be giving away tomorrow for the Splendid Spree Giveaway!! More sets to be given away as the Spree continues all this month. I used some fun new DP called Holiday Treasures and pulled out my Jumbo Pewter Eyelets. I haven't used those for a while, I almost forgot how much I like them : ) !! I added some wonderful Riding Hood Red Taffeta ribbon. It's my favorite new ribbon...LOVE it!! I had fun with this layout...it just sort of evolved as the card came together. Most of my layouts are fairly simple. I really went wild on this one, lol ; ) !

Here's a close-up of the girls...the blonde girl on the right has Fun Flock (Carmel latte tan) on her sweater...isn't that fun? Makes it looks fuzzy like a sweater! I tried to give each girl a little different texture on their sweater. Oh how I love to color! And adding glitter, gloss & fun flock...fun, fun & more fun.
I decided this would make a great Christmas card for a special friend, so I used another newly released set, Christmas Birds, for the sentiment on the inside...And here's my second card (back to a simple layout)...trying out more fall color combos, this one's More Mustard & Bravo Burgundy. The girl on the right reminds me of candy corn, lol! I added a little Cropadile embossing on those bottom scallops (you can double click on the photo to get a closer look). It's a fun & easy way to add a little texture. I did a brief tutorial last year on Cropadile embossing, if you haven't tried yet, just click HERE to see how it's done. That reminds me, I guess I'm coming up on my 1 year blogaversary...we're gonna need to celebrate : ) !!!

Splendid Little Lucky Bunnies

Isn't this bunny just the sweetest :) ? I sure think so. These adorable images kept me smiling as I was coloring them! These are my first 3 cards from Pink Poison's newly released "LUCKY BUNNY" set! You can check out the entire stamp set right HERE!! This is kind of an unusual color combo, but I think it works. The bunny is technically a light shade of red (Copic R01, R32 & R43)...so I thought placing her on a red card would be bright and fun! Here's a close-up of that bunny so you can see her glittery belly & ears....that lovely sparkle is Dazzling Diamonds Glitter!!!This next card is super simple, but the bunny image is so adorable, she just steals the show & simple totally works ~ Here's a close-up so you can see her ears & belly. I colored them with Copics then used my Quickie Glue Pen & Fun Flock (cotton ball white) to give her a soft, fuzzy belly & ears! I outlined the bunny & the flower with a Sakura Clear Glaze pen, which gives a nice shiny contrast to the Fun Flock. I use that Clear Glaze Pen all the time...it's easy, inexpensive and it dries really fast (about a minute)! Please excuse that little orange smudge where I went out of the lines on the flower...I totally didn't notice that until I went to take the photo...oops! You can't hide much in those close ups, lol!!

And here's a little boy birthday card : ) ! I used this week's SCS sketch (SC193) for this one. I tried to use colors that would work for a little boy. Did you notice how shiny that balloon is?

You can see it a little closer here ~ I used 2 coats of Crystal Effects and on the 2nd coat, I sprinkled a little Clear Chunky Sprinkles glitter on top. I have more Pink Poison cards to show you over the next few days! Thanks for stopping by : ) !!!

Simple Pillow Box Thank Yous

These were super quick little Pillow Boxes that I cranked out with my new Big Shot today! I stamped the first one with some Eastern Blooms flowers then used my new Curly Label Punch & coordinating Cute & Curly stamp set to create a quick thank you label. Then I punched a couple slots with my horizontal slot punch & created a simple little flower with my Boho Blossoms punch & 1/4" circle punch. I added some 1/4" pumpkin pie gg ribbon...and whaa-laa...I was done! A little pouch of candy corn is inside (I LOVE that stuff!). These were all more or less scrap projects. I used cardstock & DP that were left over from other projects I've been working on. It was kind of fun how the colors all worked together...the pumpkin ribbon just tied it all together. For these pillow boxes, I added a layer with my new Wide Oval Punch under the Curly Punch, and ran some Sweet Always DP through the Big shot & it worked awesome!! That Big Shot is one sweet machine : ) !!! One thing I did find in making these pouches, is you really need to use Sticky Strip to hold that long edge of the pouch closed when using cardstock. The DP pouch held together fine with my roll-on adhesive, but the cardstock really needs that extra hold that Sticky Strip gives.

Divine Design BVC September

It's the 8th ... that means it's time to post our Divine Design, Bible Verse Challenge projects! I chose the scripture from Psalm 27:1 ~ The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; whom shall I fear? I have been faced with some really big challenges these past few months and I bet many of you have too. This scripture is an important reminder for me that when I place my trust in God, there is no need to fear. Nothing is difficult or confusing to Him. Life may appear to be uncertain at times, but with God, we have the certaintly of hope & peace as we trust in Him. No fear : ) ! I pulled out my very first Our Daily Bread Designs stamp set for the scripture... the Light of the World set (still one of my favorite) and the new SU Eastern Blooms set for the flowers.

I used the new Eastern Blooms set for the flowers on my card and for this bookmark too (it's for my daughter Meg...she chose the scripture, Jeremiah 29:11). I used Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds glitter on the card. It added some great dimension & shimmer that you can't see as well as I'd hoped in the photo. The bookmark has some subtle shimmer from my Spica Clear Glitter pen. Anything that sits on my work bench eventually get's shimmered or sparkled up in one way or another, lol! I like that the Eastern Bloom flowers work great as a background, but those flowers can also be used as focal points & accent pieces, lots of versatility in this set. I started with Tangerine Tango & Kiwi Kiss on the card, then switched to Not Quite Navy & Bravo Burgundy. Two completely different looks, same great stamp set : ) ! I have to show you the back of the bookmark, nothing fancy, but those flowers really brighten it up...

Christmas Birds

Really quick post... to show you another Splendid little stamp set, newly released by Pink Poison! This one's called Christmas Birds. I love those birds : ) ... they remind me of my Mom & Dad. Friends Forever

I finally got to do a little stamping today : ) ... it's been too long, I almost forgot how, lol! Thankfully I had my new Pink Poison Stamps to inspire me! I used the newly released Friends Forever set, isn't it fun? I used this week's SCS sketch challenge (SC192) for the layout. I really like the sketch, it allows for a quick simple card if that's what you want...and we all need quick and simple sometimes! Here's a look inside of the card ~ Here are the Copics I used to color the images. Don't ask me why I needed that many...I just did. Sometimes I get a little carried away. Several of them had to do with getting the hi-lites in the girls' hair just right, lol!

Scor-Pal Gift Bag

I have a fun and easy Designer Paper Gift Bag Tutorial to share with you today. I can't take credit for this great bag design...I did modify the size and make a few other minor changes, but the basic design that I started with was designed by Angela Sylvester and featured in SU's On Stage magazine recently. Her bag was a full sized bag, made with two 12x12 sheets of DP, my bag is a smaller version, made with two 6x6" sheets of DP. Here are a couple examples of bags I've made ~ The first bag features the beautiful Bella Rose DP. I dressed the bag up with a few fun little accessories....a pocket made with Vellum cardstock & the SU 5 in 1 mini envelope template and made a tiny coordinating 1 1/2 x 2" card that fits inside the envelope. I cut 2 strips of 3 1/2 x 2" Riding Hood Red cardstock and punched one edge with the Scallop Edge Punch to create the scallop trim at the top of the bag. I used the Horizontal Slot punch to punch the holes for the 1/4" white gg ribbon and adhere those ribbons in place before covering them with the scallop strips.

This bag features the "I Care" DP available at Our Daily Bread Designs this month. Along with the HOPE stamp set, there are several wonderful Breast Cancer awareness papers and accessories available right HERE, including that cute little pink ribbon eyelet : ) !! And HERE is the real star of this gift bag project...the Scor-pal (and the Scor-mat)~There are a lot of products and tools available and sometimes it's hard to know which ones are really worth having. I really like my Scor-pal. I love that the it makes straight score lines without tearing or fraying papers (even delicate Designer papers) plus I can make multiple score lines without moving my paper. I just got the new Scor-mat that fits right inside the Scor-pal and I'm enjoying it too, it's a wonderful companion piece to the Scor-pal!! When I'm done scoring, I just pop the mat it and finish my project. You can read more about both of these products right HERE.

Alrighty then...let's get on with that tutorial! This is one of those projects that's actually really easy to do, but the first time you try it, might be a little confusing. I recommend making your first one with computer paper, just so you don't waste your good DP (like I did with a couple of silly mistakes). I also recommend reading through the all the steps before getting started . That's something I'm not always good about doing, but in this case, I think it will help you quite a bit. The directions are long, but his project is one that can be completed pretty quickly.

Finished size for mini gift bag is 3 1/2" wide, 4 1/2" tall & 2" deep

Supplies ~ Scor-pal, 2 sheets of 6 x 6 Designer Paper, Sticky Strip adhesive, Roll-on adhesive, 24" of 1/4" ribbon, Cropadile, Eyelets

Step 1: Score each 6 x 6 square of DP at 1/2", 1 1/2" & 2 1/2". Score on the side of DP that you want to be the outside of the bag. Turn and score at 1 1/2". (see photo below...I started with regular computer paper and drew in the score lines so you could see them more clearly) ~ Step 2: Place a light mark, 1" in from each end of the rectangle at the lower right side of the square. Repeat this step for the other square of DP. (see photo below...I made the mark with blue marker. I flipped the paper, so the bottom edge is up against the top of the Scor-pal...it's upside down).

Step 3: Cut the small rectangle out (in the photo above, this is on the upper right corner) and Cut into the 2 1/2" vertical score line, from the bottom edge to the 1 1/2" horizontal score line. This was a little hard to explain (should have taken a photo) but easy to see if you scroll down to the 3rd photo below.

Step 4: Score from each of the 1" marks to the corner. You can do this by lining up the 1" mark and the corner with any of the score lines on the Scor-pal (as seen in the photo below..you can see the first score line drawn in pink). This will create the flap on the bottom of the bag. (please excuse the wrinkled paper...remember that puppy we got last week, well she is adorable, but in the middle of everything, including this!).

This is how each of the 6 x 6 sheets should look at this point. You are looking at the "inside" of the bag.
Step 5: Fold all score lines as seen in the photo below. Use a little roll-on adhesive to adhere the corners of the flap down. Remember, in the photo below, you're looking at the inside of the bag.
Step 6: You are ready to begin assembling the bag. Place Sticky Strip adhesive along the 1/2" flaps (on the side of the DP that will be the outside of your bag).You can see the Sticky Strip (red) in the photo below. You are now looking at the outside of the bag~


Step 7: in the photo above, as you look at the center of the screen, where the two pieces come together, you are going to remove the backing from the sticky strip from the piece on the right and place the piece on the left on top of that strip. The photo below shows what it should look like when that step is completed ~ Step 8: Remove the backing from the other Sticky Strip and adhere that 1/2" flap under the other side of the bag...same way you did the first side.

Step 9: Fold the bottom flaps inside and use one strip of Sticky Strip to adhere the bottom of the bag together (see photo below)~

Step 10: Cut a 3 1/2 x 2" piece of cardboard for a stabalizer piece to be placed inside the bottom of the bag (just like those bags you purchase at the store!). The cardboard that comes in the SU Designer paper pack works great for this! You can place a small amount of roll-on adhesive under the cardboard and secure in place.

Step 11: Cut 2 pieces of ribbon, 12" each.

Step 12: Place marks on the top 4 corners of your gift bag. An easy way to do this is to use that Scor-pal (as seen below) to find those marks. Punch a 1/8" hole on each of those marks with your Cropadile. Place & Set Eyelets in each of the holes.

Step 13: Thread the ribbon through the Eyelets & Tie a knot behind to secure.


Here's what it looks like when it's done:

If you want to make a full-sized bag (finished size 9 1/2" tall, 8" wide and 3 1/2" deep)...here are the measurements you'll need: (2) 12 x 12 pieces of DP, Score at 1/2", 2 1/4" & 4". Turn and Score at 2 1/4". To create the bottom flap, make your mark 2" from each edge. Cardboard stabalizer piece is 3 1/2 x 7 7/8. The Scor-pal doesn't have Score marks at these intervals, so it is easier to complete a full sized bag using a different method of scoring, such as the Fiskar Cutter/Scorer. Just remember to score VERY gently on DP...otherwise it will create a cut rather than a score.
