Blogiversary Blog Candy!!!

Today starts my blogiversary/200k celebration! It's also my husband's birthday, so we can celebrate that too :) !!! Yep, it's been one year since I started my little blog! I honestly didn't think I had that much to share, but my sweet friend Kim encouraged me to get started and I'm so glad she did! Thank YOU for visiting Paper Smiles and for leaving such sweet comments!! If you ever wonder, I do read each and every one :) ! So, without further adeiu, let's get this party started...Woo-hoo!!! I have some brand spankin' new Anyas (from Pink Poison) to show you today. Next, we have the lovely Mermaid Anya ~Followed by the well-dressed (love that skirt!) Mini Bag-in-a-Box

This is the last of my October workshop projects. I know it's been done a million times, but I love this bag-in-a-box project because it's simple to make, looks adorable and is very useful! One of my groups made this cute little Mr. Twigster Mini Bag-in-a-Box (finished size 1 ½” square base, 4” tall ) using the Frosty Days Designer Paper. The other group made this medium sized Ski Slopes Medium Bag-in-a-Box (2” square at the base, 5" tall) ...just the right size for a gift card)! You can find a great tutorial HERE on my friend Cami's blog (thanks Cami, AWESOME tutorial!) and here are my dimensions for making the mini & medium versions:

Mini Size:
Cut cardstock for base box 3 ½” square, score each side at 1”
Cut Scallop strip ¾” x 6 ½” (before punching the scallop edge)
Cut Designer Paper 3 ½” x 6 ½”

Medium Size:
Cut cardstock for base box 4” square, score each side at 1”
Cut Scallop strip ¾” x 8 1/2" (before punching the scallop edge)

Cut Designer Paper 4 ½ x 8 ½”

I'm doing final preparations for my daughter's baby shower this weekend :) ! We're playing baby bunko and I used this bag-in-a-box idea to create several of the prizes...with Chocolate Chip & Pink Pirouette cardstock and a vareity of the Pink Pirouette Designer Papers...gorgeous combo, especially for a baby girl!!! I wish I had a minute to take a photo, but not today. Lots to do, so I better stay on task. Gift card in-a-card

Here's another project we made at my workshops this month and one you might be able to use for the upcoming holidays. This first card features one of my favorite sets from the Holiday Mini.... Mr Twigster : ) ... I just can't resist a cute snowman! My Mr. Twigster card is a variation of a gift card that I saw Cami make....you can see that HERE (you might also want to check out her blog candy!) and then I found a great tutorial that Lana posted today...you can check it out right HERE! I changed the dimensions a bit & made mine 4 1/4 square, here's the inside ~ To make it 4 1/4 square, you follow the same directions that Lana gives, but rather than scoring then cutting that first piece, I cut (2) pieces, 4 1/4 x 7" and scored each at 4 1/4". You adhere those together with Sticky Strip (as shown in Lana's tutorial) and you have your cardbase. You can decorate it anyway you like from there :) ! Great way to send a greeting and a little gift! We also tried out a the Glitter Window technique with this card...here's how Mr. Twigster looks behind that Glitter Window ~ Beate has a great tutorial over at SCS on the Glitter Window technique, you can find that right HERE :) ! It's a fun & easy way to add a little sparkle to your projects!! Here's a smaller (standard) sized gift card holder I made using the Crazy for Cupcakes set ~

This smaller/original (finished size 4 1/4 x 3") version of the gift card hold does want to pop open, so you'll need to use some method to hold it closed. I incorporated a ribbon and just tied mine closed. The larger 4 1/4 square stays closed pretty well without using any ribbon or bands, but on both projects, using a bone folder and get those score line folded nice and crisp is a must!

Splendid Smiles

Super quick post to show you one cute little card :) ! It's made with the new Cup O Stuff set (Splendid Little Stamps/PinkPoison)! Punchy Spider Treats

Quick post to show you another one of this month's workshop projects. This is super fun & super easy....and super cute! I've seen these on various blogs and had to give 'em a try. I'm not sure who to credit for the origianal design? If you know, please email me so I can update the post and include that information ;) ! (update**Amy tells me that Julie Case is the original designer for this project!! Apparently Julie doesn't have a blog, otherwise I'd link you to it. Thanks Amy! And, Thank YOU Julie!!!). The project is pretty self explanatory, this is what you'll need for each spider ~ Body: Scallop Circle Punch

Eyes: 1/4 & 1/2" Circle Punch

Nose: 1/4" Circle Punch

Legs: Photo Corner Punch

Treat: Pink Peppermint Patty

I adhered the cardstock pieces together with roll-on adhesive. Mini Glue dots work really well for adhering the cardstock scallops to the peppermint patty.For these, I used Basic Black & Pink Passion card stock :)

Friend. Good. - Frankenstein

I have some fun workshop projects to show you over the next few days :) !!! The one I'm showing you today is one of my favorites because its super simple and left a lot of room for creative expression! My inspiration for doing this project came from my friend Cami (stampalittlelovebaby)....check out THIS blog post from a couple weeks ago. Aren't those the most adorable Frankie's ever? Now that's some serious inspiration! Last night's hostess club ended up being a small group so we had a little extra time to play. It was so fun to see how each girl took those basic supplies and created something fun & unique. I just couldn't let them leave without taking photos so I could share them with you :) !

Here's the basic example they started with:

We used these supplies for our Frankies: Top Note Bigz Die, Big Shot Die Cutting Machine, Circle punches: 1/2, 3/4 & 1" (you could use slightly larger circle punches...completely your preference), Round Tab Punch, My way (arrow) Punch, Cardstock: Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, Whisper White & Basic Black Classic Ink Pads: Kiwi Kiss & Pacific Point, Sponge Daubers & Basic Black SU Marker, paper snips (best paper scissors ever!). By cutting & scoring the Kiwi Kiss cardstock then lining it up on the Top Note Die so that a couple of the top "bumps" along the score line didn't get cut...you can create a Top Note Card that is all one piece! Okay, enough about the details, let me show you the super fun cards my girls created :) !!!

Anne's adorable FrankieAnd the grand finale....Jenna's wonderful creation, Punk Frankie! Now this what I call creative ~My daughter Megan made this sweet little Frankette earlier in the week (she used Green Galore, Gable Green, Pink Passion, Brilliant Blue cardstock and 1/4" tempting turqoise grosgrain ribbon, Crystal Effects and Pink Chunky Sprinkles. And, she used the small oval punch in place of the round tab punch)! Frankette is spectacularly sparkly :) ?!!!

The sentiment set, Smarty Pants, includes a stamp that says "Friend. Good. -Frankenstein" .... which is the perfect finishing touch for this card :) ! This is one of those cards that I'll pull out and make for a friend, anytime of the year, just for fun. Who could resist smiling when one of these lands in the mailbox among those boring bills and junk mail???

Yo Ho Ho

...and a bottle of fun :) ! I've always loved the whole concept of a message in a bottle. I have a little stash of these plastic bottles that I use from time to time. I'd love to find the find the real thing washed up on the shore, but that hasn't happened (yet!). I have mailed a few message bottles, with a little treasure (rolled up cash) tucked inside of a rolled up birthday greeting. This Best Mates set totally inspired me to pull out my bottles and create a little treasure map/greeting :) ! Wouldn't these make fantastic invitations to a pirate themed event? Or how about giving each of your guests a bottle containing this treasure map, complete with clues for a fun scanenger hunt? Oh man, I'm gonna have to have a pirate party one of these days just so I can send these to my friends :). I took these photos at the beach earlier this week. This is Sunset Beach on the beautiful Southern Oregon Coast! As I was taking the pictures, this seagull got really curious about what I was doing and just hung out for a while. I think he was trying to add a little authenticity to the whole beach/pirate thing ;)

Punches Three

Here's a super easy little project I made for one of the prizes at last month's workshop, using the hostess level-1 set, Punches Three. This is a scented soap wrapped in Pacific Point cardstock, Hawaii Papaya DP and some 5/8" striped Kiwi Kiss grosgrain ribbon. I stamped True Blue Friend in Pacific Point ink onto Whisper White cardstock & punched it out with the Square Scallop Punch. I love when images coordinate with punches...you just stamp, punch & you're good to go!! Quick & easy...my favorite!

Here are the cards I made for my daughter Katie's baby shower invitations...baby Chloe will be arriving mid-December and we're all getting so excited!!! We made just over 30 of them! To save time, I printed the invitation details onto Very Vanilla Cardstock and adhered those to the inside. These are actually really pretty IRL, but just didn't photgraph well. I added a lot of detail to the image piece...Spica clear glitter pen added shimmer, Sakura clear glaze pen added shine, 1/4" pink circles tied the pink color into the image and those amazing Swarovski crystals (available at most craft stores in the jewelery making isles) added some spectacular sparkle!! Don't you love Vanilla, Pink & Chocolate together? Those are the colors that Katie chose for baby Chloe's room. This adorable baby buggy image stamps beautifully and punches out with the Wide Oval Punch, so it's an easy image piece to mass produce...that's one of the reasons I selected it for the invites and we'll be using it for shower decorations, favors & prizes too :)

I want to show you the third stamp from set...but I can't show you the rest of the project quite yet. My second hostess club meets next week & I like to keep our projects a surprise for them, so...you'll have to check back to see this fun project that they'll be making ;) ! Here's a tag stamped with that great Christmas stamp and punched with the Square Scallop Punch ~

While I was working on those baby shower invitations and doing workshop prep, Muffin got a little bored. She did manage to find a fun way to entertain herself. Here's where I found her .... Do you think SU might want her to be their canine spokesperson? I think she'd be perfect!

She is allowed to play with (empty) SU boxes and there was one sitting in the hallway, so she just helped herself :) ! What is it with Kids and Puppies...they'll pick a cardboard box over an expensive toy every time!!

sweet always treats

Quick post today to show you show you some fun, simple little treats that I made for guests at my hostess clubs last month. I used my Scor-Pal to whip these up in a jiffy! I don't have the exact measurement (sorry...made 'em & gave 'em away before I realized I hadn't noted the dimensions), but these are basically just a variation of the 2/4/6/8 box with the top punched with the Scallop Edge Punch. I added some 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and a Curly Label Stamp/Punch and they were done :) !!! Easy Schmeezy! Love those quick, easy projects!

That Sweet Always Designer paper just makes everything look so good, love that stuff. Here's what the boxes look like from above~

A stamp and some ghiradelli chocolate, it doesn't get much better than that! Don't you love that little butterfly (from the Flight of the Butterfly set) ....so sweet!

Best Mates

Ahoy Matey! How about a post with a splendid little pirate theme :) .... featuring Pink Poison's brand new set, Best Mates!! I had SO much fun with this set. For this card, I stamped the image with Brilliance Graphite ink, sprinkled on some Clear Embossing Powder and hit it with the heat gun. Then I pulled out the Copics for a little color, a few Spica glitter pens for some sparkle...then I used a little Caramel latte Fun Flock to make those monkeys a soft and furry. Aren't those monkeys just adorable? I love that the little guy on the right is munchin' down some pizza ! You can see a few of those details here ~Have you tried Fun Flock? I used to think it would be hard to use or messy... but it's super easy to use, and less messy than glitter. You just add a little glue (I use a Quickie Glue pen because it has a nice fine tip for fine detail), then sprinkle on the Fun Flock, tap off the excess and you're done. It's just that easy. And, it stays right where you put it. As the name implies...it's fun stuff :) . And here's a look inside ~Every pirate needs a little treasure, so here are a couple gold & silver coins! Better yet, they're CHOCOLATE :) ...now that's a real treasure!!! Fun to look at and yummy to eat!

And last, but not least, here's a card I made earlier in the week. No coloring on this card, just black embossed images on matte Kraft cardstock.. A double layer of black scallops and paper piercing add dimension to the card. You can double click on the photo to see a few of those embossed details a littler closer (if you're interested)...

This card was made for a special lady named Lenora :) ! She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will be undergoing surgery soon. If you have time today, maybe you could say a little prayer for her, I'm sure she'd appreciate it! Her granddaughter is collecting cards to give her after surgery. Heather, I think you're absolutely wonderful to do such a sweet & thoughtful thing for your grandma and thank you for including me!! I hope this card brightens her day and reminds her that when we place our trust in God, there's always HOPE!

The stamps on the outside of the card are from Our Daily Bread Design's set, HOPE. You can see that stamp set along with some great breast cancer awareness accessories right HERE!

Here's the inside of Lenora's card along with a few pink treats! During Breast Cancer awareness month, you can find all kinds of candy with special touches of pink added. The scallop treats are peppermint patties and they have pink peppermint filling inside! A fun & simple way to show someone you care :) ! The scripture on the inside of the card is from the newest Our Daily Bread Designs stamp set, Flourished Christian Symbols. I love this scripture wanted to share it with Lenora. For the peppermint treats, I used the SU hostess set, Best Yet, for the sentiment, and the SU set "Sprinkles" for the pink hearts. I think it was Cami (Stamp a Little Love Baby) who I first saw do this peppermint treat idea last year. She's a genius, plain and simple. That round Scallop Punch is perfect for making peppermint patties extra special!

Since this is Breast Cancer awareness month, I want to take a moment to share some important information with you. We hear over and over again how important early detection is...and I can tell you from experience that it's absolutely true. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. A very small, early cancer was found on a routine mammogram. I worked for a surgeon for 13 years and we saw many, many breast cancer patients. The earlier a cancer is found, the more treatment options are available and your chances of surviving are much greater. Here are 3 simple guidelines from the American Breast Cancer Foundation~
1. Learn and Perform a Monthly Breast Self Exam
Beginning at age 20, it is most important for you to know your own breast. A regular monthly breast exam will familiarize you with what is normal for your breasts, making it easier to realize any changes that may be occurring. A monthly breast self exam is not a substitute for regular screening mammograms.
2. Have Clinical Breast Examinations
A clinical breast examination is very much like your monthly self-exam, except it is performed by a doctor or nurse. It is suggested that women under 40 have this done every two years, and women over 40, every year.
3. Have Annual Mammograms
We, at the American Breast Cancer Foundation, urgently encourage women to have their first (baseline) mammogram after age 35, and to consult their doctor for a personal mammogram schedule until the age of 40. Every woman 40 and over should get annual mammograms.
