Happy Thanksgiving! Big hugs to everyone...hope your day is filled with love, laughter and yes...Turkey!! This year has been a challenging one for me and my family, but God's been faithful to provide all that we've needed, one day at a time. Part of that provision has been flooding my life with amazing friends who have been an tremendous source of love & support. I really do have so much to be thankful for today and everyday :) !!!

My first card is sweet little Anna Mae from Our Craft Lounge...reminding you to SMILE :) !!! To fully appreciate the OCL stamps, you HAVE to see ALL the pieces included in the sets. Anna Mae & Lola Mae are paper dolls for grown ups :) ... SO much fun... you can check out those sets right HERE!!! I intentionally left Anna Mae's dress plain in this image, because I covered it in Spica Red Glitter pen (after coloring it with Copic Marker R37)... it has this wonderful shimmer irl that you just can't see in the photo. I also used a Clear Spica glitter pen to add shimmer to other parts of the image and to the DP too! Anna Mae's little dress is a great space to paper piece in some DP or stamp hearts or stripes with the stamps that are included...lots and lots of options. The OCL girls created these sets to be VERY versatile!!! I've been sharing a little bit about my favorite Copic Markers and the Anna Mae card includes some of those favorites including...E25 & 27 (brown hair & shoes), E00 (skin tone) R81 & 83 (rosy pink) & R37 (really close to Riding Hood Red). I also used BG11 & 13 (blue/green). I outlined her with my must have C1!

This next card features the Lola Love set & several of the same Copic colors, R37, BG 11 & 13, but I also used Y35 & 32 for Lola's blonde hair. Plenty of sparkle on this card too...you can see it best on the heart, its covered in the Red Spica Glitter pen (just like Anna Mae's dress)! As you can tell, I'm a big fan of sparkle!!! If you haven't tried the Spicas and want to see what they're like, I recommend starting with a Clear Spica. For about $2.50, it's a great way to add shimmer to your projects! Oh, and for any of you who are still trying to figure out which ink to use with your Copics...I've been using Ranger Distressed Ink (Soot) and LOVE it! It dries instantly and doesn't bleed with the Copic Inks. Just stamp & color...no patience needed...now that's my kind of ink :) !!!

Desk Calendar Tutorial

I'm so excited to share this tutorial with you today! My good friend, Nancy Littrell, introduced me to this project and I'm SO glad she did!! She has a great photo of all 4 sides of her calendar HERE in her SCS gallery. My calendar has Winter & Spring on the outside, Summer and Fall on the inside. When you're ready, you just untie the ribbon, flip the inside to the outside, re-tie the ribbon and you're set for the next 6 months! This is a surprizingly easy project ... one that we made at my workshop this month. All supplies are SU with the exception of a Sakura clear glaze pen & Spica clear glitter pen that I used to accent the image pieces and the calendar, which was printed on the computer. I used the Tree For All Seasons set to represent each season. It's currently on the dormant list, so you won't find it in your catalog, but it IS available and you can see it online right HERE. Before moving on to the tutorial, I want to show you all 4 sides of my calendar and a close-up of the image pieces that represent each season.

Winter (Riding Hood Red with Holiday Treasures DP)~Spring (Pink Pirouette with Pink Pirouette Patterns DSP) ~Summer (Old Olive with HolidayTreasures DP) ~

Fall (Pumpkin Pie with Pumpkin Pie Patterns DSP) ~ Okay, are you ready to make one of your own? Here's how :)

Supplies

Cutting/Scoring tool
Basic Black & Whisper White cardstock

4 Colors of card stock with coordinating DP
Tree for all Seasons Stamp set

Black Stazon Ink

SU Markers & Sakura clear Glaze pen
1 3/8" Circle Punch & Scallop Circle Punch
Cropadile

Black Gingham Ribbon

Roll-on adhesive & Dimensionals

Step 1: Print a Yearly Calendar...go to:
http://www.printfree.com/Calendar_files/Yearly/2009printable.htm
Right click on the calendar & Select All
Right Click on the calendar & select Print Preview
Go to the “Shrink Down” drop down menu, select 80%
Print onto Whisper White Cardstock

Step 2: Cut, Punch & Score the following pieces:
Cut Black Cardstock 5 ½ x 8 ½” and Score at 4 ¼ “ ( just like you would for a cardbase)

Cut Black Cardstock (4) 5 x 1 5/8”

Punch (4) Black Scallops

Cut 4 pieces of *Cardstock & coordinating Designer Paper:
Cardstock: 5 ¼ x 4”
Designer Paper: 5 x 2 ½”

Cut Calendar strips (finished size should be 4 7/8 x 1 ½” each)

For each “season” complete the following steps:

Adhere DP onto the coordinating colored cardstock.
Adhere the black matting to the white calendar strip.
Adhere the matted calendar strip to the colored cardstock (the bottom edge of the black mat should be approx 3/8” from the bottom of the colored cardstock..to allow room for holes that will be punched).
Adhere Black Scallop above calendar strip.
Stamp & color image. Punch out with 1 3/8” circle punch.
Place (2) dimensionals behind the image circle & adhere to the black scallop

Next, you'll want to think about which 2 seasons you want on the outside and on the inside of your calendar then adhere each onto the black calendar base. For instance, you could put Spring & Summer on the outside, Fall & Winter on the inside. Just make sure your seasons go in sequence. If your layers are heavy, you may want to consider using sticky strip or whatever strong adhesive you prefer. For my calendar, my standard monohesive worked just great! I made this one about a month ago and it's still in perfect shape...no signs of lifting.

Use your Cropadile to punch two 1/8” holes (for the ribbon) on the bottom edge of both sides of the calendar (approx 3/8” up from the bottom edge). Thread gingham ribbon through and tie in a loose knot or bow.

Wasn't that easy? This is basically just a standard black card base with layers on all 4 sides and it fits inside a standard SU Medium or Translucent Envelope! You can customize this SO many ways for gifts. Just look through your stamps and papers & I bet you'll find something that would work for each season. Add Scriptures, Quotes, family Photos...the possibilities are endless! If you have any questions about the project, just email me (youcanstamp@hotmail.com).

Blooming with Gratitude

This is such a beautiful stamp set. I guess that's why SU named the set Blooming Beautiful :) ! I colored this image with my Copic Markers and added a sentiment from the All Holidays set. In future posts, I plan to share some of my favorite Copic Colors with you. For instance, the flower pot uses 3 of my favorite Earth tones (E15, E25 & E29). We all have our favorite colors, but if you REALLY want to learn about Copics, the expert on this subject is, without a doubt, Marianne Walker ! If you have a Copic question, she has the answer, I can pretty much guarantee it! Her blog, I Like Markers, has tons of helpful hints and ideas. Marianne's blog is the best resource I can give you for learning more about Copics!


I had hoped to post the Calendar Tutorial today, but it's taking a little more time than I anticipated to prepare the post, so it will be tomorrow. It's a great little project you won't want to miss :)

Who's your doggie

Quick post to show you the card I made for the first ever Our Craft Lounge Sketch Challenge (details HERE)! It's uploaded at SCS using the keywords OCLSC01, so if you pop over there you can check out the other cards. I used Pat the Dog (again!)...just can't quit stamping him. There are so many fun pieces with the set, it worked great for the sketch :) ! After coloring Pat with my Copics, I used a little Carmel Latte Tan Fun Flock and a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen to give him some real fur :) ...here's a closer look at that fur ~

Since we're on the subject of dogs...here's me & my puppy, Muffin, attending her very first dog obedience class this morning. She started out great ~
Miss Muffin is only 7 months old and the other dogs were much bigger (longer legs, imagine that, lol) and older...so let's just say she was pretty much done after about 30 minutes (the class lasted an hour)....ready for a snack, a nap and some love. We had a few more moments of compliance, but this is how most of the last 30 minutes were spent ~
She's a sweet girl, eager to please...she's OUR DOGGIE and we're very proud of her :) ! She's going to practice her lessons and hopefully, she'll do even better next week!! Here's a great photo of that sweet face.I think she was telling us that she was ready to head home for that much over-due nap :) !

Easy Pumpkins

Need an idea for a quick, simple Thanksgiving favor or place setting? We made these super simple little boxes at my workshop this month. These are SO easy, you could make them for all your dinner guests and include a little treat inside! I made a basic triangle box with Old Olive cardstock (you can find Beate's SCS triangle box tutorial HERE). This is a 3" Triangle, so I started with a rectangle 3" x 6". I added a strip of Haiku DP (1" x 3"), then punched (2) Tanergine Tango Large Ovals, and Punched a 3rd Large oval from the Haiku Dp and popped it up on a couple dimensionals. The stem is 1/4" Olive gg ribbon and it's tied together with a little Hemp Twine. The sentiment is from the All Holidays set :) and punched out with a small Oval punch.

Here's a quick card I made with some of the same supplies. This time I used a sponge dauber to add a little tangerine ink to the edges of the ovals to give them a little dimension. You could easily add more scallops to make a bigger, fuller pumpkin...it's up to you, keep it simple, or add a little more :) ! The "Happy Thanksgiving" greeting is from the Holidays and Wishes set.I also have 2 RAKs to share with you today! This first one is from the Amazing Nancy Riley (iStamp)!! Isn't it gorgeous? Thanks Nancy...you are SO thoughtful (AND talented...but that goes without saying)!!! Miracles Happen

I love this sentiment...Miracles Happen! I believe miracles happen in big and small ways every day, you just need to look around and you'll find 'em. My daughter told me she was daydreaming at a traffic light yesterday and a moment later a car ran a red light and went right through the intersection where she should have been. Hmmm...a random daydream or a miracle? Take your pick...but I pick miracle :) ! The sentiment and the bird are both from the Vintage Bird set, by Pink Poison. This bird was fun to color! I tried to add ribbon and a few other embelishments to this card but it just looked too busy, so I kept it simple. This DP, from My Mind's Eye, Just Dreamy 2 collection, is so gorgeous, you don't need much else (the DP & Rhinestones are both available at Eclectic Paperie). Lots of dimension & color on this card and you can see that a little better in this photo ~ This little pup is getting stamped a lot at my house :) ... he's so cute, I just can't help myself! It's Pat the Dog, from Our Craft Lounge!! I made this card for yesterday's color challenge (CC193)at SCS, to use Real Red, Black & Kraft. I don't think I've ever used that combo before, but I sure like it! I was hoping to do the sketch challenge today, but it ended up only being a hope. Maybe tomorrow?That's it for today ... Punchy Penguin Fun

Here's one of the projects we made at my workshop this month. A Punch Penguin card inspired by Mercedes Weber again. She submitted this winning idea to SU, using punches to create fun holiday tags. I modified my penguin quite a bit, but the inspiration came from Mercedes for sure!! This is a HAPPY DAY :) ... because I've been playing with brand new stamps from Our Craft Lounge! This card uses one of my favorites sets...Pat the Good Dog :) ! This is one happy little doggie!!! I tried to get a side/close-up view so you could see the sparkle and dimension...but my photography skills could use some work, lol ~

Next, a card casing today's Feature Stamper over at SCS...Kendra! Congrats Kendra ,it was so fun to look through your gallery of amazing cards and projects!!! The card I cased is right HERE! I used Bub The Beaver set for my card, but there's not even a beaver on my card. I used some of the fun accessory pieces this time! This is one of the sets that's available in both Crafty Cling Rubber or Crafty Clear. Isn't it nice to have the option of either? The Designer Paper I used for today's cards is My Mind's Eye, from the Just Dreamy 2 collection... isn't it fabulous! You can find that yummy paper over at Eclectic Paperie.

Introducing....Our Craft Lounge

I have a couple of cards to show you today from a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW Stamp company called Our Craft Lounge! I'm so proud of Cami (Stamp a Little Love Baby) & Joy (Joy of Stamping)... they have worked really hard, along with Kim & Marianne (I Like Markers) to make this day a reality!! This is what happens when amazing stamping talent meets amazing artistic talent! Congratulations girls, I couldn't be happier for you!!!!! Alrighty then, on with the cards! My first card features Bub The Beaver. I about flipped when Cami showed me this set. I LOVE beavers and this guy is just adorable! Fun to color...and yes, I used my Copic Markers :) ! It seemed only natural since Marianne drew Bub. He was born to be colored with Copics!!!

This next card was made with the Tree-mendous set! The girls designed these sets to have lots of fun accessory pieces so the opportunity for you to create fun scenes is endless! I kept this one pretty simple...just used the tree, the birdhouse and a sweet sentiment. This set is available in either crafty clear or crafty cling! I used the crafty cling (aka rubbah!) and they stamp bee-a-utifully!

Winter Post

Quick post to show you a couple of Winter Post projects :) ! I've been admiring this set from the Holiday Mini and a friend let me stamp a few images last week (Thanks Nance!). After stamping these images, the set officially moved from my admiring list to my wish list :) ! It is an absolutely gorgeous set... love it! I even got out my sewing machine for the card. Sewing still intimidates me a little, but it's getting better.

This triangle box was super fun to make. I used Beate's tutorial over at SCS and it was so easy! Great little project and you can make 'em any size. This one is a 4" triangle. Happy Birthday Deer Dad

Today is my Dad's birthday! He used to enjoy deer hunting, so I thought he'd get a kick out of this card. The punched deer was inspired by Mercedes Weber...she submitted the winning idea of using punches to create fun holiday tags, featuring adorable critters, like this deer! What a fun idea. I LOVE my punches, so as soon as I saw this idea, I knew I'd have to try. Here's what I used to create my deer ~

Head: Wide Oval Punch (Chocolate Chip)

Eyes: 1/2" Circle Punch (Whisper White) & 1/4" Circle Punch (Basic Black)

Nose: 1/2" Circle Punch (Really Rust)

Ears: 5-Petal Flower Punch (Really Rust)

Hair: Boho Blossoms (Really Rust)

Antlers: Wide Oval Punch (Chocolate Chip)

And here's the inside, plenty of room for everyone to write a little greeting to dad (aka grandpa)!While I had those supplies out, I made another card, this time with a Christmas theme! Hey look, it's Rudolf and that shiny red nose is making his eyes cross, lol :) ~

Divine Design November

Good morning :) ! It's the 8th of the month...that means it's time for our Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge projects. I selected this verse from Psalm 107:1. Our country faces so many challenges right now, most families have been touched in one way or another by our floundering economy. Others struggle with health issues. My family has been faced with one big challenge after another this year, but we still have so many reaons to be thankful. In times of trial and challenge we often cry out to God for help, but forget to thank Him for the countless things He provides. Simple things...for instance, do you have access to clean, safe drinking water today? If so, you have a reason to be thankful. I was thinking of how many times I say thank you to people throughout my day. The checker at the grocery store, the doctor, my family, the postman, the list goes on and on. But how many times to I pause to tell God thank you? Hmmmm....probably not often enough. This month we celebrate Thanksgiving in the US and we reflect on our blessings. I'm going to make this my focus for the entire month of November and thank God every chance I get :) !

Two cards that' I'm very excited to show you today... both were created by my daughter Megan !
This first one is, of course, Rock Star Anya ! In the next photo, you can see that she gave Anya LIPS (and lipstick!)....isn't that awesome? I did my best to get a good photo, but this card is so gorgeous IRL...it's absolutely stunning!!!I love all the sparkle, shimmer & shine she adds to her images and her cards, that's my girl!!! This next card is another beauty by Megan, it's Mermaid Anya ~Aren't those fantastic colors? She's been having a fun time with my stamp supplies, so I'll have more of her creations to show you over the next few weeks. I also hope to have MORE blog candy soon, so stay tuned for that! Plus I have some fun SU workshop projects and some RAKS to show ya too. Lotsa fun stuff coming right up, so continue to stop by and remember to say HI!!!

More Anyas & last chance to sign up for the Blog Candy!

For me...it depends on my mood and what I'm working on, but I MUST have something going in the background, either a dvd or music while I'm stamping! If it's a DVD, it's probabaly a musical :) !!! For the first card, I used the Elf Anya, limited edition stamp. Just a heads up, this is a limited edition stamp and when the supply runs out, they're gone for good...so if you like her, you might want to place your order sooner rather than later. She is adorable, that's for sure!!! I actually pulled out one of my all time favorite Christmas movies while making this card, ELF :) ... love that movie especially this little song/scene ~ Baby it's cold outside)! Those embossed dots on the scallop were made with my Cropadile, then I went over them with my Sakura Clear Glaze pen...fun way to add a little texture! I shared a quick little tutorial on the Cropadile Embossing technique last year, you can find that right HERE.

Here's Rock Star Anya ! My daughter, Katie, wrote songs and played the electric guitar in a high school band (they were REALLY good!)... and this card totally reminds me of her. She went through a phase of dying her hair a variety of colors, including pink! I have to admit, I'm glad she's back to being a blonde...but she looked cute, even when she was my pink haired girl ;) And here is my very conservative little Teacher Anya card (that's my nice way of saying that I think my card looks plain). My daughter, Megan, is studying to be an elementary school teacher so this stamp is extra special for us.

I love hearing about which Anya is YOUR favorite. As for me, there's no way I could ever choose a favorite...whichever one I'm working with, that's my favorite. From the nurse to the rockstar...they are all perfect for someone I know! And the upcoming (soon to be released) Ian (Anya's fiance) is going to be a favorite too, can't wait to get some ink on him!!

A couple of you have asked Copic questions (great subject...love my Copics), so let's see. My favorite Copic to outline/shadow with is the C1 (that's what I used with the teacher). But sometimes I use BG000, which I did today with the Elf and the Rock Star. The other question that is asked from time to time is, how to get started with Copics...I'm going to email a couple friends and see what's currently available for starter kits. If you use a lot of SU supplies (like me) then you also want to make sure you get colors that will coordinate with your cardstock and DP...and I'm going to find some resources for you there too. And you need to use the right paper and ink for optimal results. My plan is to answer those questions (and maybe a few others) in an upcoming post... or at least get you a link to a site that can answer those....how does that sound?

Vintage Birds & another chance at that Blog Candy :)
